Avra Shiati was born in Lefkosia. She began her music education at the age of six at the Ethnikon Odeion of Cyprus, from where she obtained a Diploma in Piano, Solfège and Harmony. Under the great maestro Andros Natar, she was awarded the Diploma in Solo Singing with Distinction, as well as the 1st Prize. She has attended singing seminars in the UK with mezzosoprano Tereza Cahill, as well as with the soprano Linda Hirst. She continued her studies with soprano Olga Djokic and obtained the Performance Diploma in Singing of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (LGSMD). Avra Shiati has collaborated with the opera Weikerheim, Germany. She has given numerous solo recitals and has performed as soloist in Cyprus, England, Germany, Italy, Austria and Greece (Athens, Corfu, Rhodes, Crete). She has also sung for radio and television productions, performing arias and operatic excerpts. She has collaborated with many orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta” of Belgrade, the Orchestra of the Darmstadt Polytechnic in Germany, the State Orchestra of the University of Okinawa, Japan and the Cyprus State Orchestra. She has participated in Mozart’s operas Cosi fan tutte in the role of Dorabella and Le Nozze di Figaro in the role of Marcellina, both staged as part of the International KYPRIA Festival in1995 and 1998 respectively. She has also interpreted the roles of the Witch in the opera Hansel und Gretel by Humperdinck and of the Mother in the opera Amahl and the night visitors by Menotti. Since 2005, she teaches singing at the Music Department of the University of Lefkosia.

Sorin Alexandru Horlea was born in 1975 in Bucharest and started studying the violin at the age of eight. He graduated from the George Enescu Music High School where he studied under maestro Octav Savitchi. Thereafter he enrolled the Ciprian Porumbescu Music University where he studied with maestro Daniel Podlovschi. In 1996 and 1997 he took part in summer courses with maestros Viktor Pikaizen and Eugen Sarbu. In 1997 he won the third prize at the George Enescu – Childhood Memories contest in Bucharest. During his university studies he played with the George Enescu Philharmonic as well as the Radio Chamber Orchestra, the Filarmonia Chamber Orchestra and the Bucharest Opera. In 2000 he moved to Lebanon to become a member of the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra, where in 2003 he was appointed assistant concert master. Since 2005 he is a member of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, in the first violins section. At the same time, he is working as an associate trainer and teacher for the scholarship programme of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra. Apart from his orchestra and teaching activity, mr Horlea performs concerts and recitals both as a soloist and a chamber musician throughout Europe and the Middle East. He is a member of the Cyprus String Quartet and the Danube Quartet. He is also involved as a player in jazz and folk music groups.
