The Board of Directors of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation, at its meeting 12/2017 of 5th July 2017, has unanimously decided to offer the position of Artistic Director – Conductor of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra to the German conductor Mr. Jens Georg Bachmann.
For the position of Artistic Director – Conductor of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, 47 candidates applied from 16 different countries, from Europe, North and South America and Australia. After examination of the qualifications as specified on the Announcement of the position, the personal interview with the candidates who met the required criteria and the collaboration of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra with the three finalists (a procedure which was open to the public), the Board of Directors of the Foundation has selected Mr. Jens Georg Bachmann as the most suitable for the position.
To the new Artistic Director – Conductor of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, a three- year contract will be proposed.
Mr. Bachmann is a graduate of the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler”, Berlin in violin and orchestral conducting and of the Julliard School of New York in orchestral conducting. He has collaborated with significant orchestras all over the world such as Boston Symphony Orchestra, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Lyon as well as with important opera houses such as Metropolitan Opera New York, Komische Oper Berlin, Royal Swedish Opera, Staatsoper Stuttgart. Mr. Bachmann has collaborated with major festivals and leading conductors, he is particularly active in social and educational programmes and has recorded for the radio as well as the record labels DaCapo and Naxos.
