ADOLPHE SAX – THE FATHER OF THE SAXOPHONE – Tribute to his 200th birth anniversary

The saxophone, customarily associated with jazz music, is actually equally used in band music and classical music. The CySO pays tribute to the 200th birth anniversary of the inventor of the saxophone, Adolphe Sax (1814 – 1894) with two exceptional 20th century works for saxophone and orchestra, presented in Cyprus premiere. The programme also includes works by two composers who were Sax’s contemporaries, the child prodigies F. Mendelssohn and J. Cr. Arriaga, who has been called “the Spanish Mozart”.

F. MENDELSSOHN: Die schoene Melusine, op. 32 (The fair Melusina)
