ΣymphoΠedia

For children 7-12 years old

The ΣymphoΠedia System, an integral part of the educational network of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, commenced its operation in October 2019 under the artistic direction of Yiorgos Kountouris. It represents a unique innovation in the field of music education worldwide, as it supports children’s initial musical socialization through a comprehensive cycle of ensemble-based musical training.

It is addressed to children aged 7–12 and includes instrumental ensembles, rhythmic training, music theory, a vocal workshop, and a Children’s Choir. Through their participation, children develop cooperation, listening skills, discipline, and the ability to perform collectively from an early age, while also gaining valuable experiences through concerts and other artistic activities.

ΣymphoΠedia functions as a natural and pedagogically structured preparatory stage for the children’s future integration into the symphonic ensemble of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, creating a meaningful connection from the first steps of musical socialization to full orchestral participation.

A special place within the programme is held by the Children’s Choir, under the musical direction of Loizos S. Loizou. With its freshness, expressiveness, and remarkable artistic development, it has emerged as one of the most vibrant and promising pillars of the CyYSO. The Children’s Choir has already participated in and impressed audiences in dozens of significant productions, including “Suzy’s Christmas Journey: A World of Carols” and “Freakadella: The witch who hated Christmas” with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, “The Nutcracker” ballet with the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as the concert “The songs of our lives” featuring George Dalaras and the CyYSO.

Through its overall activity, ΣymphoΠedia cultivates a new generation of children who experience music as collaboration, expression, discipline, and the joy of collective creativity.

All children selected to participate in the programme will participate in the following ensembles:

  • Percussion, brass, woodwind or strings ensembles
  • Rhythmic education
  • Vocal Workshop and Children’s Choir of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra

  • Participate in concerts and other activities
