This year the Pafos Aphrodite Festival offers opera lovers a unique production: the State Opera and Ballet Theatre of Tbilisi (Georgia) with the participation of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, will present Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen”, one of the most beloved and timeless operas ever written.
“Carmen” recounts the story of Carmen, a free-spirted and irresistible woman. The legendary opera will come to life on stage with all the power, passion, and tragedy that have defined it since its premiere in 1875.
With music pulsating with rhythm, inspiration, and melody — from the famous Habanera to the explosive Toreador Song — “Carmen” captivates audiences and remains an eternal symbol of freedom, feminine strength, and human tragedy. A performance not to be missed — where music, passion, and fate meet in a fiery symphony of life and death!
Synopsis
Based on the novella by Prosper Mérimée, Carmen tells the story of a strong and enigmatic woman — Carmen, a gypsy who works in a cigarette factory in Seville, Spain. A free spirit, unpredictable and irresistible, Carmen captivates Don José, a young soldier who abandons his career and life for her. However, his love slowly turns into obsession, as Carmen — faithful to her need for freedom — turns her attention to the charismatic bullfighter Escamillo. Passion, jealousy, and freedom collide fatally in one of opera’s most gripping dramatic climaxes.
