The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation, announces 22 new student positions for the Academy of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Successful candidates will receive partial scholarships to study one of the following musical instruments, under the guidance of highly-qualified educators selected by the CYSO Foundation. The monthly tuition fees corresponding to each scholar for 2026 amount to €80 per month, while the remaining cost of the studies will be covered by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation. The academic period runs from September to May. The lessons take place 2 times per week, with a duration of 45 minutes for each lesson. Enrolment in the Academy is subject to the Academy’s rules and regulations.
Scholarships by instrument:
- 8 for Violin (Lefkosia, Larnaca)
- 2 for Viola (Lefkosia)
- 1 for Cello (Lefkosia)
- 1 for Oboe (Lefkosia)
- 2 for Flute (Limassol, Paphos)
- 2 for Clarinet (Lefkosia, Paphos)
- 2 for Bassoon (Lefkosia)
- 1 for Trumpet (Lefkosia)
- 1 for Trombone (Lefkosia)
- 2 for Percussion (Lefkosia)
Requirements
Applicants must be:
- Up to 8 years old for violin, viola and cello
- Up to 9 years old for oboe, flute, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone and percussion
No previous experience with a musical instrument is required. However, younger age combined with the ability to quickly meet the demands of the program will be important selection criteria. Selection criteria for the audition/interview include the candidate’s basic musical abilities:
- Response to tonality and rhythm
- Musical memory
- Commitment to dedicated participation

Note: It is possible that a different instrument from the one initially selected may be proposed.
Selection Process
The interviews and final selection will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Acropolis Lyceum (Nicosia), between 10:00 – 19:00.
- No exceptions will be made.
- No preparation is required.
- The exact time of attendance will be communicated to each candidate by September 25, 2026.
