The internationally esteemed conductor and composer Nimrod Borenstein leads this special programme titled “CYPUS, ISLAND OF LEGENDS”. Cyprus is the setting for three of the musical works, whilst a whole new composition by Borenstein is inspired by Cyprus legends. Get ready for a powerfully evocative musical evening that portrays in a truly impressive manner the emotional landscape of each story.
Nimrod Borenstein’s music has been described as “exceptionally brilliant, multicolored and cleverly constructed.” It is a great honour for the Orchestra to present under his baton the world premiere of his work ‘Legends of Cyprus’, which he composed especially for the CySO’s new recording project.
Samuel Coleridge’s incidental music to Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’, is a score of operatic grandeur that shifts seamlessly between solemn funeral marches, energetic dances, and moments of lyrical, haunting beauty.
Antonín Dvořák’s ‘Othello’ Overture opening creates a sense of dark foreboding. Its radiant melodic lines evoke Desdemona’s tenderness, contrasted with darker, turbulent themes that portray Othello’s inner turmoil, culminating in a powerful depiction of the tragedy’s final moments.
Franz Schubert’s popular incidental music for the play ‘Rosamunde’ completes the evening. Celebrated for its poetic warmth and dramatic sweep, the score follows the story of Rosamunde, a humble shepherdess who becomes Princess of Cyprus.
