ELECTRA AND BERENICE

The well-known soprano Katerina Mina interprets two operatic pieces, which were inspired by two personages of antiquity: Berenice, wife of the King of Macedonia Antigonus II Gonatas, who fell in love with her husband’s son Demetrius, and Electra, a princess with whom Idamantes, son of the King of Crete Idomeneo, was in love. The two compositions aptly express the agitated psychological state of the two women. Moustoukis’s esoteric composition and Beethoven’s luminous and energetic 8th Symphony inhabit different worlds.
