CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERTS

With musicians of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra

A programme with outstanding works by five French composers! In Francaix’s witty and humorous 1st wind quintet (1948) there is ample conversational interplay between the instruments. Ibert’s three delicious short pieces (1930) reflect the composer’s gift for iridescent effects. Milhaud’s suite La cheminée du Roi René (1939), derived from music written for Bernard’s film Cavalcade d’Amour, outlines a love story set in the medieval court of King Rene d’ Anjou. The movements of Debussy’s allusive Petite suite (1889) emanate dreams and longing, mischief, elegance and sparkle, in succession. Enjoy highlights, such as the Aragonaise, Habanera, and Toreador song from Bizet’s opera Carmen (1875) in which obsessive love and a rebel heart make a dangerous mixture.
