MUSIC FROM THE THEATRES OF CYPRUS – 2

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra returns to the theatres of Cyprus in Pafos, Larnaka and Lemesos, to perform live a series of three different programmes, one in each city, thus supporting the theatres of Cyprus.

In its second live concert this year, the Orchestra will present a beautiful programme with two contemporary works and a classical symphony. You will hear the music for ballet “Leda and the swan” by Constantin Papageorgio – member of the CySO and composer – as well as the Concerto for tuba by the Norwegian composer Arild Plau, written in 1990 and recorded in 2003 by his compatriot tuba soloist Øystein Baadsvik. The programme concludes with Joseph Haydn’s popular “Clock” Symphony, pervaded by heartfelt joy and a characteristic “ticking” rhythm throughout its 2nd movement.

The CySO is delighted to be joined by two highly talented Cypriot artists, tubist Andreas Theocharous and the distinguished conductor Yiorgos Kountouris.

Constantin Papageorgio: Leda and the Swan
Arild Plau: Concerto for tuba and strings
Joseph Haydn: Symphony no. 101 in D major

Soloist: Andreas Theocharous (tuba)
Conductor: Yiorgos Kountouris
