The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra makes its inaugural appearance at the Dimitria Festival at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, under the baton of its Artistic Director, Myron Michailidis, following an invitation from the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra. Joining the Orchestra for this special occasion are two outstanding young artists whose careers are rapidly gaining international recognition: Cypriot pianist Anna Avramidou and Greek mezzo-soprano Villy Kyriakopoulou.
Long overlooked yet remarkably engaging, Haydn’s operas are a musical treasure that has gradually been reclaiming its rightful place both on the operatic stage and in the concert hall. The overture to his comic opera The Apothecary (Lo Speziale) opens the programme with light-hearted energy and irresistible theatrical charm.
Admired from its very first public performance—with Beethoven himself as soloist—for its originality and artistic sophistication, the Piano concerto no. 4 ranks among the greatest works of the classical period.
With its spellbinding blend of passion, mystery and folkloric colour, Love, the Magician (El Amor Brujo), captures the soul of Spain’s gypsy heritage in one of Manuel de Falla’s most evocative and captivating creations.
Produced by the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra
In collaboration with the Thessaloniki Concert Hall
